    Champlain Orchard Cidery

    Foxboro Rosé

    United States, Vermont

    Brewery Overview

As one of the oldest continuously operating orchards in Vermont, Champlain takes great pride in growing 146 varieties of apples, as well as peaches, pears, plums, cherries, nectarines, apricots, medlars, quince, and various kinds of berries. Some of the apples are grown specifically for their hard cider, while others are chosen for their pies. Bill Suhr, Champlain’s founder, purchased the orchard known as Larrabee Orchard in 1998. The initial purchase of 60 acres has grown into more than 250 acres of fruit. The production of hard cider began in 2011. Champlain Orchards are careful stewards of their land and grow fruit following strict Eco-Apple requirements which are an ecology-based farming and certification program that supports local farmers. All the fruit grown by them, and therefore the fruit used to make cider, is harvested from within ten miles of the production site. They are committed to not using apple concentrate, corn syrup, cane sugar, or inferior/inexpensive ingredients. All their fruit is either ecologically grown and third-party certified by the IPM institute or organically grown and certified by VOF. Six years into their solar power program, their farm is almost entirely run by the power of the sun.
