    Ritual Rhone Blend

    United States, California, Napa Valley

    Winery Overview

Mike Hirby and Schatzi Throckmorton founded Relic Wine Cellars in 2001 with just a few barrels of Pinot Noir and have since continued to mine history for the old secrets in the making of Rhone varietals, Bordeaux varietals, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Appling traditional methods to the California climate, the resulting wines to be modern and vibrant, yet adamantly more complex and satisfying. This dynamic couple have one goal in mind, to make world-class wines that have all of the complexity, aromatics, nuance and concentration that one would expect from some of the best sites in Napa Valley and the Sonoma Coast. Mike's career in wine began as a sommelier in Colorado Springs, CO, at the award-winning restaurant Primitivo, where he developed his passion for wine and his palate. Winemaking was the seemingly obvious next step; and after spending several months exploring the wine country of Spain and France, he made his way to Napa Valley. Mike learned his way around the cellar at Behrens & Hitchcock Winery for several years, before being hired as the Winemaker for Realm Cellars in 2002.In addition to Relic, his current winemaking projects include D.R. Stephens Estate, Husic Family Vineyards, and Sarocka Estate. Schatzi moved to the Napa Valley in the fall of 1999. She quickly found her way to Behrens & Hitchcock Winery where she learned the business-side of the wine industry. In addition to managing Relic, she continues to serve as the Business Manager for Behrens Family Winery.
