Winery Overview
The Lumos Wine Company was launched in 2000 by Dai Crisp, dashing grape grower and winemaker, and his groovy wife and business partner, PK McCoy. Dai was first introduced to viticulture in 1986 when he helped his parents plant a small, 10-acre vineyard on their farm in Wren, Oregon. PK was first introduced to Dai in 1991, when he served her a beer in a local tavern. In 1990, Dai began professionally growing wine grapes at Croft Vineyards where he developed his own unique, that is to say, sustainable and earth and people-friendly style of grape growing. Since 1999, Dai has been managing Temperance Hill Vineyard, a 100-acre site in the Eola Hills, just west of Salem, Oregon.
With the help of his dauntless crew, Dai grows all of the fruit that goes into the Lumos wines on three different USDA Certified Organic vineyards; Wren Vineyard – the Lumos estate vineyard; Temperance Hill Vineyard – highly esteemed Grower of the Year for 2014 vineyard in the Eola-Amity Hills AVA and Logsdon Ridge Vineyard aka Rudolfo. He has been farming wine grapes like this – using sustainable and organic methods for 20 years. This philosophy of using a natural approach with minimal intervention also drives the winemaking.
While Dai and PK enjoy most of the credit for the work directly related to growing, making and selling the wines there are many people whose dedicated hard work and contributions make it all possible and appear so seamless.

Vineyard
Temperance Hill Vineyard: Managed by Dai Crisp since 1999, is a 100-acre vineyard located in the Eola-Amity Hills AVA in the northern Willamette Valley. Owned by the Koo family, this second-generation vineyard was first planted in 1981 on basalt-based volcanic soil. The vineyard is primarily made up of Pinot Noir, with a few acres of Chardonnay, Gewürztraminer and Pinot Gris. With an elevation range of 660 to 860 feet, Temperance Hill is a cool site, providing excellent growing conditions for Pinot Noir. Wine Enthusiast: One of 5 Oregon Vineyards Worth Knowing Lumos 2014 Temperance Hill Pinot Noir: One of 6 Essential Willamette Valley Pinot Noirs (Wine & Spritis).
Logsdon Ridge Vineyard: Owned by the Rudolph family and known to our team as Rudolfo, this small 10-acre vineyard planted entirely to Pinot Gris and has been farmed by Dai and his team since 2000. Located just north of Corvallis, it is a warm, low elevation site that ripens very early. Its crop level over the last three years has been around 2.7 tons to the acre. The vineyard supplies 6 clients, all making beautiful Pinot Gris.
Wren Vineyard: Our home site, originally planted in 1985 by Dai and his folks, has grown to 15 acres and is planted in Pommard Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Dijon clone Chardonnay. Elevation is 300 – 500 feet and even with direct south facing exposure, it is an extremely cool site prone to frost. An overhead frost protection system makes it possible to farm wine grapes here and when we do see a crop through the entire season without any frost these grapes make a most stunning wine.
