    Winery Overview

    A sommelier and a chef walk into a bar. One has a degree in sustainable agriculture, the other has an MBA. Now they have a wine company. Nomadica is a women-run, LA based wine company making small-batch wine for cans that feature local artists on the labels. CoFounders Emma Toshack and Kristin Olszewski have lived up to their nomadic namesake, and capture the spirit of Nomadica wines. "Chief Nomad" Emma Toshack's story starts in Sydney - where, after dropping out of Sydney Law School she started a restaurant, running the kitchen until a fire shut it down. Emma did return to finish law school, then joined The Boston Consulting Group for several years, before moving to the United States to pursue an MBA at Harvard Business School. Next, Emma joined Snapchat in Los Angeles in 2015. She left Snapchat about 18 months later to officially launch Nomadica - the wine she'd been dreaming of for years. "Wine Chief" Kristin Olszewski got her start in wine while working in restaurants in San Francisco. Though she was busy completing a pre-med degree at Harvard, when applying to med schools she couldn’t deny her love of the vine and committed to the pursuit of palate. Now, she is a certified sommelier; currently on the sommelier team at Osteria Mozza where she works with a 70 page, all-Italian wine list. She previously worked at Husk in Nashville, Straight Wharf in Nantucket, and as Wine Director for F10 Creative in Palm Springs (Mr Lyons, Birba, Cheeky’s, Avalon Hotel). In college she majored in sustainable agriculture and gender studies. That makes her a bad ass former female farmer. She’s still passionate about working with high quality, small producers who focus on sustainable practices and biodynamic farming.

    Vineyard

    Various vineyard sites throughout California -- Rancho Arroyo Grande, French Camp, Cienega

    Viticulture

    Grapes are sourced from Cienega vineyard, from heritage vines planted in 1954, picked in two lots.

    Vinification

    At the winery, grapes are immediately pressed. The juice is fermented in 90% neutral French oak and 10% new on its lees. Partial malolactic fermentation. FSO2: 27ppm

    About the art: Artist -- Kareena Zerefos. Kareena’s Menagerie series explores the whimsy of life and the polarities of the human condition. She uses watercolors and pens to achieve elegance and delicacy. In this piece, a Hummingbird flaps his wings as he has lunch.

    Tasting Notes

    Delicate bubbles, fresh white peaches, ripe apricots, jasmine, and vanilla orchids.
